Big Muddy Film Festival
The 32nd Annual Big Muddy Film Festival begins this Friday and lasts throughout February. Films ranging from animation to narrative, documentary and experimental will all be showcased at the event. The festival is entirely student-run from students in the SIU Cinema and Photography Department.
Department Chair Walter Metz says the festival is important for the students and the community.
"It's one of the areas where the University really fulfills one of its central missions of outreach," says Metz, "and by taking the film around to various places in the community, people who I think wouldn't ordinarily come to the University can see the kind of work that our students and people like them are doing."
While some films will be judged, others are simply being showcased. One documentary about Haitian women will be screened and all proceeds from that screening will go towards the relief effort in Haiti.
