Lansing could charge nightclubs for police service LANSING, MI (WKAR) -

The city of Lansing might start charging nightclubs for emergency services if police and fire departments are repeatedly called to quell disturbances. The city council could consider and ordinance next week that would charge nightclub owners the cost of emergency response if the city gets more than two emergency calls to the club.

The ordinance is in response to an ongoing problem of fights at various clubs throughout the city. Most recently, police have responded to dozens of calls to a nightclub on the city's south-side called The Venue.

The Venue's owner says he understands the city's frustration, and has worked with police to stop the problem. But, Jermaine Redding says the city should also be more proactive in dealing with the underlying social problems that lead to violence in the first place.
