Lawmakers continue talk of tax reform LANSING, MI (MPRN) - State lawmakers agree Michigan's tax structure is outdated and requires big reforms. But there are disagreements over how to reform the tax system, and how quickly it needs to be done.

Democratic state Representative Alma Wheeler Smith says inaction on tax reform is costing the state the ability to offer crucial services. She says some loopholes created ten years ago during better economic times could be closed to generate quick revenue.

Smith wants to put a question before voters to enact a graduated income tax. She also wants to expand Michigan's sales tax to services and entertainment. She says that makes sense in an economy that has become more service-based.

Smith is running for the Democratic nomination for governor.
