Mid-Michigan voters prepare for election day
(2009-11-02)
(WKAR) - Thousands of mid-Michigan voters go to the polls Tuesday to decide a number of civic and school board races.

Lansing voters will decide whether incumbent mayor Virg Bernero should get a second term in office, or if veteran city council member Carol Wood will take the city's top job. On the city council, at-large challengers Rina Risper and former council president Harold Leeman Jr. are hoping to unseat incumbents Kathie Dunbar and Brian Jeffries. Tina Houghton is challenging incumbent Sandy Allen in Lansing's second ward, while Jessica Yorko is running the fourth ward.

East Lansing voters will select two city council members. Incumbents Victor Loomis and Kevin Beard are running against Hans Norman Larsen the fourth.

There are a few other council and school board races in the area as well. Voters will also decide three winners on the Lansing Community College board of trustees.

The polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. till 8 p.m.
