Granholm Closes Department of History, Arts and Libraries
The move will save the state around $2 million.
The department oversees several institutions, including the Michigan Historical Center, the Library of Michigan, and the state's arts agency, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Most of those function will now be absorbed by other state departments.
Granholm has also proposed cutting the amount of state funding for the arts by $6 million. Right now the arts receive around $8 million in state funding. Those cuts are still being debated in Lansing. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
