When writer Lev Raphael was growing up he was haunted by his parents' past. They were both Holocaust survivors. They endured unimaginable horrors and lost almost everyone they knew and loved. They found each other as the Allied forces liberated Europe and eventually started a new life in New York City, but as it was for most survivors, it was impossible to entirely leave the past behind. Lev Raphael has written a new book about his parents and how the legacy of the Holocaust shaped him, it's called "My Germany a Jewish Writer Returns to the World His Parents Escaped." He spoke with Michigan Radio's Charity Nebbe.
