State Senate considers changes in Blue Cross rules
(2008-01-24)
(Michigan Public Radio Network) - The state Senate Health Policy Committee opened hearings Wednesday on legislation that would change how Blue Cross-Blue Shield sells health insurance. The bills deal with the growing number of people who purchase their own coverage. Right now, most people in Michigan get insurance through their employers. But the individual market is expected to grow as more people become self-employed or accept buyouts from their employers. Kalamazoo area Republican state Senator Tom George is chairman of the health policy committee. He says lawmakers want to help people without insurance through their jobs have affordable and accessible health care coverage. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Public Radio Network
