Councilwoman Lobbies Kroger to Come to Detroit
Kroger has agreed to purchase 20 former Farmer Jack locations in Michigan, and reopen them as Kroger stores. But Detroit's two Farmer Jack locations were not included in that deal.
Those two stores are being purchased by independent grocers. But Councilwoman Monica Conyers says the city needs a major grocery chain.
She's asking the city council to come up with an offer to lure Kroger to Detroit.
"What I asked our council to do, was to find some area that was just open area, land, that they could use and to provide them with some kind of tax incentives," said Conyers.
The councilwoman met last week with a Kroger executive. She says they'll meet again in a month, once there's an incentive package to present.
