Aldermen OK Loan to Arts Group

The Macomb City Council agreed to give the West Central Illinois Arts Center a $100,000, interest-free loan.
The WCIAC bought the former Maurice's building on the courthouse square last month. The loan will help the WCIAC pay for the purchase.
The WCIAC has already hosted an event in the building. Much of the Gazebo Arts Festival was moved there because of rain last weekend.
Arts center board member Peggy West was pleased with the community's response. West says "The enthusiasm that we heard from people who attended that event and the encouragement that we heard was very enlightening and very supportive."
West says the center plans to host much more than art festivals. She says the center will eventually contain theater space and art, dance, and voice studios.
