A hearing on the proposed Shamrock Acres hog farm drew a standing room only crowd on July 12. 66 people signed up to speak during the Illinois Department of Agriculture hearing. One week later, the McDonough County board split on whether to recommend the project to the Agriculture Department.

A nearly year-long lockout at Roquette America's plant in Keokuk finally came to an end in late July. Members of Local 48-G ratified a five-year contract with the company.

Illinois lawmakers breathed a sigh of relief on July 11 when the Illinois Supreme Court ruled to uphold the state's infrastructure program. Iowa Democrats called for a special legislative session when Governor Branstad in late July vetoed key pieces of the state budget compromise.

Reporter Jason Parrott took a look at how the controversial Lee County government reorganization is working out, and reporter Jim Lenz told us about a Western Illinois summer camp that has no tents and no sleeping bags - but does have a group of "flying monkeys."
