In The Tri States - March 2011
(wium) - A look back at the top stories and features from the Tri States Public Radio news department from March 2011.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn repealed the death penalty on March 9. He also spared the lives of the 15 men who were on death row by commuting their sentences to life in prison without parole. One of those men is Daniel Ramsey of Keokuk. He was convicted of killing two girls and wounding three other people in Hancock County during a shooting spree in the mid 1990s.

Also last month, Jason Parrott reported on a huge labor rally in Keokuk. Hundreds of people took part on March 26 to show their support for the 240 union workers who've been locked out of their jobs at Roquette America for six months.

Lee County supervisors talked last month about consolidating some services, and Rushville broke ground in March for a long-anticipated project to enhance the downtown square.

One of the guiding spirits behind the St Patrick's Day celebration in St Patrick, Missouri passed away, as did the man who served as Western Illinois University's seventh president.
