Shop Talk - January 25
(wium) - The panelists discuss recent examples of well-reported stories.

Bill Knight cites a pair of local stories. One is TeamThrows Dance for Life by Shawna Richter of the Burlington Hawkeye. It's about a teenager who organized a dance to raise money for finding a cure for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her brother suffers from the disease.

Knight's other example is an article about vaccinations. It was written by Sarah Self and can be found in the Hancock County Journal Pilot. Knight says Self puts a human face and a local spin on a larger story.

Mike Murray is impressed with the Time article that accompanied the magazine's selection of Mark Zuckerberg as Person of the Year. Murray says it was well-researched and painted a complex picture of the person who is credited with creating Facebook.

Rich Egger enjoyed a pair of articles about Forgottonia, which was a concept dreamed up in the early 1970s to draw attention to western Illinois. One of the articles was written by WIU student Ed Komenda and appeared in Western Illinois Magazine. It's a well-researched history piece.

The other story was reported by Nathan Woodside of the McDonough County Voice. It's also well-researched and includes an updated interview with Forgottonia "Governor" Neal Gamm.
