Shop Talk - September 7
(wium) - The panelists discuss whether news organizations should require people to use their real name when posting comments on-line.

Right now, many sites allow comments to be posted anonymously. Those who post often use an on-line pseudonym. Some seem to treat this as a license to attack other comments in a mean or unproductive manner. They write things they probably would not say to someone's face.

Many years ago newspapers allowed readers to write Letters to the Editor without a name attached, but that changed over time. Perhaps it's time to make the same change with on-line comments.
