In mid-August, the jury deliberating the case against former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich announced its verdict. It found Blagojevich guilty on just one of the 24 charges against him. A lone juror prevented convictions on a number of other charges.

Keokuk's public works director found himself out of a job, and a Keokuk school board member chose to resign after a controversial closed-door meeting about the high school girls basketball coach. A former head football coach at WIU reached a settlement with the university over his dismissal.

Also in August, Rich Egger reported on the release of funding for the long-awaited Biggsville Bypass, Alex Degman told us about an anniversary celebration for a van, and Jason Parrott took us to Shuckfest.
