SCC President, Dr. Beverly Simone
(wium) - Jason Parrott's guest is Southeastern Community College President Beverly Simone.

Dr. Simone says SCC has dealt with reductions in state aid and mid-year budget cuts in recent years. She says, despite that, the college has been able to add programs and classes because it has taken a conservative approach to budgeting.

Dr. Simone says SCC has gotten by by cutting administrative positions and reducing travel, energy, and training expenses.

The college's Board of Trustees also boosted tuition by $6/credit hour earlier this year.

Dr. Simone says enrollment remains high, despite the tuition increase. She says the economy is a key factor in that.

SCC is attracting new students by adding a cyber security program and advancing its industrial technology program. The college is also seeing a boost in online education.

Dr. Simone says SCC has had to delay the implementation of several programs.

The college is lining up funding for a facility for a new animation program and waiting for clearance to develop a helicopter piloting program.
