Emphasis - August 20
Al Goldfarb
(wium) - Rich Egger's guest is Western Illinois University President Al Goldfarb.

The new school year at WIU begins Monday, August 23. It will be Goldfarb's final year as president. He's retiring after a long career in higher education in Illinois. He spent 25 years at Illinois State University before becoming WIU's 10th president in July 2002.

Goldfarb's final year could prove to be challenging. The state still owes WIU money from last fiscal year and it's likely payments will be late arriving during the current fiscal year.

Goldfarb anticipates a large freshman class this school year. He says that will make up for the large class that graduated last spring.

WIU is still trying to secure state money for construction of a performing arts center on the Macomb campus. Goldfarb hopes ground can be broken before he retires.
