During the month, Terry Branstad won the Republican nomination for Iowa governor. He will face incumbent Democrat Chet Culver in November. Marianette Miller-Meeks won the GOP primary for Congress in the district that includes southeast Iowa. She will face incumbent Democrat Dave Loebsack in November.

Strong storms that included tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings tore through the area during the first few days of summer.

Jason Parrott told us about the open house at the Lee County Jail. A nearly two-year expansion and renovation project wrapped up during June.

Alex Degman reported on the last day of school at Roseville Elementary, which is being closed due to a host of financial matters. Rich Egger was on hand for the beginning of a new community that sprouted in western Illinois.
