Lee County Health Department Administrator Julie Schilling
(wium) - Jason Parrott's guest is Lee County Health Department Administrator Julie Schilling. They talk about the county's ranking in a recent national health study.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Initiative recently ranked the health of every county in every state.

Lee County ranked in the bottom six in Iowa in both the current health of the county's residents and in the factors that contribute to community health. Schilling says she was not surprised by some of the results, based on Lee County's overall ranks in adult obesity, tobacco use, and unemployment.

Schilling says her department will soon work with its community partners to develop a new community needs assessment. She says that report will prioritize the actions of the Lee County Health Department for the next five years.

Schilling says the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report will factor into Lee County's assessment. She hopes to have the local document completed by February.
