(wium) - Jason Parrott's guest is Dr. Eugene Watkins. He is the site manager for Old Fort Madison.

Dr. Watkins has completed a rough transcription of the orderly book for Fort Madison, which was built in the early 1800's. He says the book was discovered in the archives of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY.

The book lists the military orders and court martials taking place within the fort from Jan. 1812 until the fort was abandoned in Nov. 1813.

Dr. Watkins says the orderly book sheds light on punishment and the presence of women within Fort Madison. He says it also leads to questions about how the fort was abandoned and the location of a soldiers' cemetery.

Dr. Watkins hopes to edit and publish the information in time for the fort's bicentennial in 2012.
