Keokuk Police Department Hiring
(2008-09-20)
Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew
KEOKUK, IA (wium) - The Keokuk Police Department will be at its highest staffing level in years... once it finds enough qualified candidates.

Chief Tom Crew says applications are being accepted for four immediate openings.

He says the high number is due, in part, to the Keokuk Police Department receiving a federal grant to hire two new officers.

Crew says the challenge is competing with other law enforcement agencies for skilled candidates.

Crew says testing is expected to take place in October.

He says having 26 sworn officers will result in more officers out on the streets, an additional detective, and a reduction in overtime caused by vacations, injuries, and illness.

*Additional Information*
- The city council approved the other two officers to fill one vacancy and to reduce overtime.
- Crew says a candidate list must be developed and presented to the Civil Service Commission.
