Myers Reacts to Last Week's Special Session
(2008-09-17)
MACOMB, IL (wium) - A Western Illinois lawmaker says last week's special session of the Illinois House will only be worthwhile, if the Senate takes action too.

Republican Representative Rich Myers says the session was a good start in many ways, but whether it was worth being called to Springfield, will depend on when or if the Senate does anything with the different measures the House approved.

Myers says it is not known if the Senate will wait until the veto session in November to act. He also doesn't know if the Capital Proposal passed out of the House will be received by the Senate and the Governor.

Myers says he does not support the idea of leasing or selling the state's assets. But he voted in favor of leasing the state lottery to fund a capital bill, because the need for one is so extreme.

Additional Information:

*Myers called the special session an attempt to correct problems that have been created by the Governor's amendatory vetoes.
