Hamilton Tightening Security
(2008-09-08)
HAMILTON, IL (wium) - Security will soon be tighter for meetings in one Hancock County community.

Hamilton's new security policy will be on display for the first time next week.

Those attending public meetings at city hall will have to enter through the police department, which is equipped with a walk-through metal detector.

Mayor Steve Woodruff says Hamilton has been working to improve its security for a while.

Woodruff says the Hamilton Police Department will use next week's city council meeting as a run-through.

The actual policy will take effect next month.

The measure also prohibits items such as guns, knifes, and drugs from being brought into Hamilton City Hall.

- Woodruff says he would like to eventually see more local organizations meet in the new community center.
