Algae Could Be Used To Produce Fuel
Sales Manager Al Moander says Tri-City Energy is one of the many plants feeling the effects of record feedstock prices, especially soybean oil.
In fact, he says production at the Keokuk-based biodiesel plant has recently been halted.
Moander says that is why Tri-City Energy is exploring the use of algae in bio-diesel production.
He is talking about microscopic plants, not the green film that grows on ponds.
Moander says algae could produce 300x's the amount of oil/acre as soybeans.
He says the byproduct could also be used for be used in both animal feed and ethanol.
