Project Underway to Fix Macomb's Water Turbidity Problems
(2008-09-03)
MACOMB, IL (wium) - Macomb will soon begin a project that aims to fix turbidity problems in the city's water. Macomb aldermen unanimously agreed to award an approximately $1.5 million contract to New York based Pall Corporation.

The company will build a pilot membrane water filtration system by the end of this month. Public Works Director Walter Burnett says the new system will cause the city's turbidity problems to "essentially disappear."

In the mean time, Macomb will continue to use sand to filter its water. Burnett says membrane filtration is superior because it will totally block particles from entering into the water.

Burnett says the pilot program will take about one year. If all goes well, Burnett hopes the turbidity free system will be fully operational by June 2010.

Additional Information:

*Macomb chose to use Pall Corporation for both the pilot program and final design process. Burnett says this will expedite the process.

*Final design plans will be formulated concurrently with the pilot program.
