Western's Computer Science Department Turns 25
(2008-09-02)
MACOMB, IL (wium) - In 1983 Apple introduced a computer with 64 kilobytes of ram, Time Magazine named the personal computer machine of the year , and more than ten-million computers were in use. Also, in 1983 Western Illinois University, started its computer science department.

Over the past 25 years the Computer Science Department has grown to include new majors and a master's degree program. Kathleen Neumann is the chair of Western's computer science department. Neumann says the department originally grew out of several different areas.

Additional Information:

*The computer science master's degree program has grown to become one of the largest at Western.

*Events will be held throughout the year to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the department.
