Denmark Upgrading Water System
(2008-09-02)
DENMARK, IA (wium) - A water project in one rural Lee County community could be wrapped up by Thanksgiving.

Construction is underway on an upgrade of Denmark's water distribution system.

Engineer Jim Warner says the community is going to purchase water from the Rathbun Regional Water Association. That will require the construction of water lines to connect to a supply tank near West Point.

Warner says larger water mains are being installed and water meters will be replaced and moved to more convenient locations.

He says the goal is to improve drinking water and to enhance fire protection capabilities.

Warner says the entire project will cost around $900,000. The money will come from state grants and low-interest loans.

The project has been in the works for several years.
