Traffic Prohibitied In Hamilton
HAMILTON, IL
(wium) -
Traffic is being restricted in one of Hamilton's recreational areas.
Mayor Steve Woodruff says vehicles will no longer be allowed to drive on the old dike road. It runs between Montebello Access and the proposed site of Hamilton's walking bridge.
The road was severely damaged as it sat underwater for several weeks this sumer.
Woodruff says the city also wants to keep walkers from wandering off the road. He says the idea is to allow animals that sought higher ground during the flood to return to their habitats.
Woodruff says crews have worked countless hours to restore the boat docks at Montebello Access, including hauling dozens of loads of gravel.
He says several events scheduled for later this month at that location will go ahead as planned.
