WIU Updating Safety Policies and Procedures
Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services, Dana Biernbaum, says the act requires Western's emergency procedures to be flexible enough to address any type of emergency response. She says that can range from anything such as violent behavior to severe weather.
Biernbaum says Western has already been looking at ways to improve its policies. She says the University has been going through every building, on both campuses, to address any risks on the building level to be sure emergency procedures are in place for those.
Biernbaum says the only area Western might have to improve on and take a closer look at is the implementation of a threat assessment team. Biernbaum says the University already has some components in place that would make up the team.
Biernbaum does not feel the University will have any problems meeting the requirements of the act by the January deadline.
