Fort Madison City Manager Search Starts Over
(2008-08-22)
FORT MADISON, IA (wium) - It is back to the drawing board in Fort Madison's search for a new city manager.

The decision comes after yet another finalist has dropped out of the running.

The city, through a press release, says David Watson withdrew his name from the search because of conditions within his family.

Watson previously served as city manager in Newton, IA.

He follows Michael Ashcraft of Olathe, KS, who withdrew earlier this month.

With just one finalist remaining, Mayor Steve Ireland says the search committee has decided to start the process over.

He says advertisements seeking applications could go out as early as Monday.

Ireland says the third finalist, Larry Stoever of Saline, MI, could apply again.

Fort Madison has been without a full-time city manager since May of 2006.

Water Superintendent Larry Dinwiddie has been serving as interim city manager.

*Additional Information*
- Four members of the Fort Madison City Council called for former City Manager Bill Kelly to step down in 2006.
- Ireland says the city has saved at least $100,000 by not immediately filling the post.
