More Fingerpointing Over Parks
At issue is the wording in an ordinance that would give the city oversight of Chandler Park. Aldermen heard first reading of it this week.
The park board's John Hemingway found some of the language troubling and contentious. Other board members also expressed concerns. Hemingway says the ordinance claims the park district did not follow through in maintaining Chandler Park. He disagrees with that assessment.
Hemingway hopes the wording is simply legal language that got overlooked when the ordinance was drafted, and he does not want it included in the official document that transfers control of the park. Park commissioners agreed to ask their attorney to meet with the city's attorney to talk about changing the language.

Additional information:
*The city and park district are still finalizing three support agreements regarding parks in Macomb. One of those is the agreement regarding Chandler Park.
*A second agreement concerns Spring Lake Park.
*The third agreement covers Glenwood Pool and several other parks. © Copyright 2009, wium
