Canton Ready To Revitalize Downtown
(2008-08-19)
CANTON, MO (wium) - One Northeast Missouri community is ready to jump-start its downtown district.

Mayor Joe Clark says the Canton Downtown Vision and Development Strategy is now in the hands of the city.

He says the Board of Aldermen has endorsed the 60-page document, which was developed by a firm out of Columbia, MO.

Clark says the idea is to improve the look and feel of Canton's downtown district, which could eventually lead to economic development.

The Canton Downtown Vision and Development Strategy contains sketches of potential streetscapes, outlines of zoning requirements and design guidelines for buildings.

It also proposes a Canton Community Recreational Center and a community trail.

Clark says the first project could be adding some outdoor street lights.

*Additional Information*
- Clark says Culver Stockton College will be heavily involved in the project.
