Construction Continues on Multicultural Center
(2008-04-15)
(wium) - After a rough winter, work is moving forward on the new Multicultural Center at Western Illinois University.

Project Coordinator Ted Renner still hopes to open the building in December. Renner says the contractors are confident they can make up the lost time and still make the deadline. The building is Leadership and Energy Environment Design, or LEED Silver certified. It will have a green roof, energy efficient lighting and a bamboo floor.

The facility will house Casa Latina, The Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, the Women's Center and the International Friendship Club. Students are paying for the building with an additional fee. The estimated cost of the project is 6-million dollars.
