Prints From The Bird Machine
(2008-02-13)
(wium) - The new exhibit at the WIU Art Gallery showcases colorful silkscreen posters that promote concerts by bands such as Low, the Melvins, and Human League. The posters also promote other events and acts such as Lewis Black.

The posters are the work of Chicago artist Jay Ryan. He uses non-toxic and environmentally safe ink, and the 100% recycled paper stock is manufactured using hydroelectric power.

Art Gallery Curator John Graham says the pieces are reminiscent of rock posters from the 1960s, but are clearly plugged in to contemporary culture. He's especially impressed with the use of color and the humor in the drawings.

Jay Ryan: Prints From The Bird Machine will remain in display at the WIU Art Gallery until March 6. A public reception will be held Wednesday February 13 6-8pm.
