Fort Madison Working To Secure Water Plant Land
City Manager Larry Dinwiddie says it's taken longer than anticipated to obtain the property, located between Fort Madison and Montrose, because another company has a purchase option on it.
In response, he says the city filed condemnation papers.
Dinwiddie says a special panel, consisting of realtors, bankers, and others with expertise in real estate, will meet next month.
Dinwiddie says the city hopes to own the roughly 120 acres of land, located outside of city limits, before the end of the year.
He says the $14,000,000 plant's capacity will be 5,000,000 gallons per day.
It will expandable up to 8,000,000 gallons.
Treatment tests are still being reviewed by the state.
The city hopes to break ground on the plant in roughly a year.
