Brown County Schools Waiting for Property Tax Funds
(2007-11-19)
Brown County High School
(wium) - Brown County's school district is hoping residents pay their property tax bills promptly this year.

Superintendent Merle Kenneday says the tax bills have not gone out yet, but are expected some time in December.

He says those who wish to use the taxes as a deduction on their Illinois income tax forms will have to pay the bill before Dec. 31.

He says this would give the district needed funds and could keep it from having to borrow against a line of credit.

He says the borrowing would cost the district interest money that could be used for education.

Kenneday says the county treasurer's office has promised to do all it can to speed getting tax funds to the school district.

More information:

If tax bills are dated Dec. 1, residents normally have until Jan. 1 to pay them without penalty.

Because the State of Illinois has not passed a budget implementation bill, the district is receiving state aid at last year's lower figure.

Kenneday says legislators approved a higher foundation level for school aid, but can not yet pay it.
