Macomb Day in Springfield
(2007-03-19)
Macomb Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Corporation President Penny Lawyer
MACOMB, IL (wium) - A group from Macomb will head to Springfield on Tuesday March 20 to meet with lawmakers and others in government. Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Corporation President Penny Lawyer says Macomb always brings a well-rounded group for its annual legislative day. She feels Macomb is well-known around the capitol building. Lawyer says education funding will once again be a priority issue during the day of lobbying. However, the local chamber has not made a decision whether to support or oppose the governor's proposed gross receipts tax to pay for education. She says the group is still reviewing the plan. Lawyer says another priority for Macomb is transportation, including highway construction and continued state support for Amtrak. Other issues of concern include economic development, healthcare, and tourism. © Copyright 2010, wium
