Lee County Jail Population Projected to Increase
(2007-02-22)
(wium) - Any expansion or upgrade of the Lee County Jail will likely have to account for an anticipated jump in inmates. A facility evaluation and needs assessment shows that, in 15 years, the Lee County Jail would need 130 beds, which is roughly double the current capacity. The report also says the female inmate population could jump by 15% during that time, which would require specific housing methods. Steve Hanson is with Midwest Construction Consultants of Houghton, which helped put together the study. Hanson says it would cost Lee County as much as $16,000,000; over the next 15 years, to house inmates outside of the county if an expansion does not take place. © Copyright 2013, wium
