Veterans Gather to Honor Those Who Served
BUFFALO
(wned) -
Veterans Day is being observed across America today. One such remembrance took place aboard the USS Little Rock at Buffalo's Naval and Military Park, behind the site of the former Memorial Auditorium.
About a dozen members of the Erie County Veterans of Foreign Wars gathered on the forward deck of the vessel for brief remarks and a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of those men and women who served their nation honorably in times of conflict.
Lance Becker, Commander of the Erie County Council of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, says he is glad to see Americans giving the men and women who served in Iraq a warm welcome back. He says that was not the case 40 years ago when he and his fellow soldiers returned home from a tour of duty in Vietnam.
"Sometimes it's hard for me to accept what happened years ago but I'm slowly coming out of it and want to do everything I can for the veterans," said Becker.
