The Ronald Reagan childhood home in Galesburg, IL.
(wium) - The childhood home of a former US President is up for sale in western Illinois. The family of Ronald Reagan lived on North Kellogg Street in Galesburg for a short time during his childhood years.

Nancy and Mike Reathaford bought the home 16 years ago. Nancy Reathaford says it has a lot of charm.

"I had always wanted to live in an older home," Reathaford says. "About one week after I had looked at it for the first time we found out that Reagan had lived here. That was just added enthusiasm for me."

"It has original woodwork that has never been painted and lovely hardwood floors," says Reathaford. "One of my favorite things about the home are the windows. They are very large and let in a lot of sunlight. There are a couple of leaded glass windows."

Reathaford says the home was built in the early 1900s.

"We don't have an exact date," says Reathaford. "We've been to the courthouse and tried to determine that. We have an early picture of the house and I believe it was dated 1907."

She hopes someone local will buy it and use it for tourism purposes.

"There is a plaque out in front and many people pull up and look at the plaque," says Reathaford. "Galesburg talks about their tourism possibilities a great deal and I just thought that this would add to it."

Reathaford says they are selling the home because they are moving out west. The asking price is $139,900.
