Gov. Quinn Signs Legislation To Rewrite FOIA
Governor Pat Quinn signed the legislation Monday that rewrites the act and creates a permanent public access counselor within the attorney general's office to oversee enforcement of the act.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the legislation also allows fewer exemptions to the act and shortens the time for a government to respond to a request.
The legislation also creates fines for non compliance.
Governor Quinn also signed laws that make it easier to get information about the state's boards and commissions and state spending.
