Carbondale Attorney To Run Again For Governor
Rich Whitney, the Green Party candidate for governor last time, got more than 10 percent of the vote. He is in the race for 2010, announcing his candidacy with a statewide tour, complaining of corruption, paralysis and lack of responsiveness in state government, conditions he says existed in 2006 as well.
The Carbondale attorney says the Green Party is truly the people's party and says the Democrats and Republicans can't measure up.
The Green Party achieved major party status thanks to Whitney's results in 2006, meaning the signature requirement for Green Party candidates to gain access to the ballot is the same as it is for Democrats and Republicans.
Whitney is in favor of the property-tax-for-income-tax swap, he's for a single-payer health insurance system, environmental conservation and the establishment of strong local economies.
Whitney will make his announcement Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Carbondale Civic Center.
