Keokuk Changing Kid Zone Fee
Director Laurie Mendenhall says a weekly, income-based fee was established for Kid Zone after state and federal funding for the program dried up.
She says, about an hour into this week's registration, the district decided to switch from a weekly fee to a per-day or unit fee.
Mendenhall says parents wanted to pay for the amount of time their children attended the program.
A unit is both the morning and afternoon sessions of Kid Zone on a given day.
Mendenhall says parents will have to pay for five units at one time.
She says the district is anticipating a 1/3 drop in attendence because of the new fee.
*Additional Information*
- Parents would pay $5 for 5 units if their student receives free school lunches, $10 for 5 units if they receive reduced-price lunch, and $25 for 5 units if they pay standard lunch fees.
- Mendenhall says a student sponsorship program is also being developed to cover the cost of sending students to the program. © Copyright 2012, wium
