Flood Clean-Up Jobs Available In Iowa
KEOKUK, IA
(wium) -
Many Iowa residents, who are currently unemployed because of the recent flooding, can get back to work and help in the clean-up effort at the same time.
Iowa Workforce Development Spokesperson Kerry Koonce says more than 8,000 people have filed some degree of unemployment claim.
She says many will qualify to earn up to $12,000, over a 6-month period, for cleaning up public parks, buildings, and infrastructure.
Koonce says that is more than what they would earn on unemployment.
She says residents of more than 2/3 of Iowa's counties are eligible.
Some of the sites include Fort Madison's Riverview Park, the North Lee County Historic Center, and the cities of Burlington, Oakville, and Montrose.
