Keokuk "Kid Zone" To Charge Fee
Wells Carey Elementary site-coordinator Laurie Mendenhall says the proposed budget for KidZone does include a $5-$25/week usage fee, plus a registration charge.
She says that while the new fees could result in a drop in attendance of as much as 33%, next year, they are needed because of an elimination of state and federal funding.
Mendenhall says the proposed budget also calls for a shift from three KidZone site coordinators to one program director as well as a reduction in staff, based on the projected attendance decrease.
She says supporters are applying for local and state grants and seeking businesses interested in providing scholarships for children whose parents cannot afford the new fees.
