Election Preview - Hamilton
(2008-01-28)
(wium) - Hamilton residents will have to decide, next week, whether city leaders have found the best location for a future community center.

The idea for a new facility came to light after talk began about repairing Hamilton's current senior center, with is located across the street from City Hall.

Mayor Steve Woodruff says it would cost a lot of money to restore that building because of its small, narrow rooms and the fact that it is not handicapped accessible.

He says that turned the discussions towards a community center, which could replace the senior center and also be used for reunions, receptions, or meetings.

Woodruff says a number of locations were explored... with the best being the old ambulance property on 18th street.

You can hear more on the two ballot questions, whether the 18th street location is the best site for a new community center and if a building tax levy should be created, by clicking the audio link above.
