Lawsuit: asphyxiation of black youth was prank
The victim was 18-year-old James McCoy the Third, a member of the Church of the Messiah in Westerville near Columbus. He was found hanging from a tree at a Christian camp near Bellefontaine northwest of Columbus.
The lawsuit says he died when his friends, who are white, played a version of a choking game on him as an 18th birthday prank.
The lawsuit seeks $25,000 in damages.
Church officials haven't commented.
