The Centennial Honors College presents the Thirteenth Annual Pre-Law Symposium. This informative and free event is open to the entire Western Illinois University community. Students interested in the study of law are especially encouraged to attend.
The symposium will begin with an informational reception where students will have an opportunity to meet representatives from several invited law school admission officers and recruiters. Invited Law Schools include: DePaul University College of Law, Drake University School of Law, Hamline University School of Law, Indiana Tech Law School, John Marshall College of Law, Northern Illinois University College of Law, Valparaiso University College of Law, Southern Illinois University School of Law, Marquette University Law School, University of Illinois College of Law, University of Iowa College of Law, University of Minnesota Law School, University of Missouri School of Law, and University of Wisconsin School of Law.
Students will also have an opportunity to discuss career opportunities with WIU Pre-Law Advisors from the Honors College; School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration; and the Departments of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, and Political Science.
Refreshments and beverages will be served and music provided by Dr. John Simmons.
At 6:00pm, Ms. Heather Wier Vaught, WIU Alumna, LEJA/Sociology, 1998 and an attorney at law who serves as Counsel to the Illinois Speaker of the House will present the keynote speech entitled "Ten Things I Wish I Had Known Before Law School."
At approximately 6:30pm, there will be a panel discussion and a question and answer session on preparation for law school. Panelists include: Genc Arifi, WIU, LEJA, 2013, 1L, DePaul University College of Law; LaQuenta Rudison, WIU, Philosophy, 2012, 2L, John Marshall Law School; Arsenio L. Mims, WIU, Political Science, 2011, 3L, University of Missouri School of Law; Steven Dennis Rineberg, Attorney at Law, WIU, Political Science, 1998, J.D., St. Louis University College of Law; and John Fisk, Attorney at Law, WIU, History, 1977, J.D., Chicago-Kent College of Law.
