Culver-Stockton College’s 41th annual Robison Lecture in Religion will discuss the presence of famous biblical figures in other religious texts.

This year’s guest lecturer is Dr. John Kaltner, the Virginia Ballou McGehee professor of Muslim-Christian Relations at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Kaltner’s lecture is titled, “Jesus, Mary and Moses in the Qur’an.”

Dr. Kaltner earned his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Drew University, in Madison, N.J., M.Div. and M.A. degrees from the Maryknoll School of Theology in Maryknoll, N.Y., a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture and a diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the Pontifical Institute of Rome, Italy; and a B.A. in Spanish from the State University of New York, Oswego. In addition to many articles, presentations and other publications, Kaltner is the author of 12 books.

The Robison Lectureship was endowed by Dr. Georgia Robison Beale in 1972 in honor of her father, Dr. Henry Barton Robison, professor of religion and dean of the school of religion at Culver-Stockton College from 1910-44. The lectureship provides for an annual lecture in religious scholarship and for the printing and distribution of the lecture. The lectures have been distributed to friends and surviving relatives of Dr. Robison, to deans and professors of religion in Disciples Institutions of higher education and to Disciples ministers in the tri-states.

Henry Barton Robison was a native of Georgia and educated at Transylvania College, College of the Bible and the Divinity School of the University of Chicago (Ph.D. in 1907 with a major in New Testament and a minor in Old Testament). After brief pastorates in Texas and Alabama, he served as professor of religion at Culver-Stockton College from 1910 to 1944.

This event is part of the Culver-Stockton College Academic and Cultural Affairs program.
