Sand Mining Company Protects Habitat INTERLOCHEN, MI (Interlochen Public Radio) - Anyone who drives a Ford likely has an engine block molded from sand in wext Michigan. Fairmount Minerals ships 400,000 tons a year of industrial sand to manufacturing plants in southern Michigan and Ohio. Fairmount tries to be environmentally responsible.
