Politics of Shipwrecks

(Interlochen Public Radio) - This fall, Lake Huron's Thunder Bay should be featured in two nationally televised history programs. The managers of the underwater sanctuary say this kind of attention to Great Lakes maritime history is priceless. But critics say the attention has come at the expense of the people of Michigan. The bay off Alpena was designated a federal sanctuary in 2000. Since then, most of the archeological research has been done by groups from the east coast.
